Yesterday’s talks in Riyadh between an American and Russian delegation have been positively evaluated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, as reported by Ria Novosti. Putin stated that during the negotiations in Riyadh, Moscow and Washington agreed to “resume the normal work of their respective diplomatic departments.”
Putin expressed his willingness to meet with American President Donald Trump, but emphasized that the summit would require preparations, according to Tass.
Furthermore, Putin addressed the concerns of Ukraine for not being invited to the negotiating table between Russia and the US, calling the Ukrainian hysteria “inappropriate.” However, he clarified that Ukraine is not excluded from the negotiation process. Putin quoted President Trump during their phone call, mentioning that the US expects negotiations to involve both Russia and Ukraine.
Putin accused European leaders of directly interfering in the US electoral process and expressed surprise at what he termed as Trump’s “moderation” towards his allies. He commended Trump for his intelligent behavior in dealing with them.
According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Donald Trump is known for speaking frankly and does not hide his opinion about “pathetic individuals” like Volodymyr Zelensky. Lavrov mentioned that Trump is an independent politician who speaks candidly about such matters.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Donald Trump of living in a space of Russian disinformation. He criticized the US for assisting Vladimir Putin in coming out of international isolation.
The Kremlin expects Zelensky to present his proposals for resolving the conflict soon. Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, mentioned that preparations are needed for a summit between Trump and Putin.
According to Lavrov, Trump is the only Western leader to understand Russia’s concerns about Ukraine’s possible NATO accession, which were among the deep-rooted causes of the conflict. Lavrov noted the positive steps taken by Moscow and Washington to move away from the brink in bilateral relations.
