Welcome to Aqua Film Festival!
March 21st – 25th, 2025 | Venice
9th Edition
Get ready for the 9th edition of Aqua Film Festival taking place from March 21st to 25th, 2025 in Venice, the World Capital of Water. The festival will be part of the grand event called Aquamour, an international event aimed at raising awareness about the importance of water resources and environmental sustainability.
Curated by Eleonora Vallone, the festival will feature a special screening on March 24th at 3:30 PM at Sumus and 5:30 PM at Piazza San Marco 105 of “Acqua Granda,” a short documentary by the City of Venice about the recent flooding in the city, directed by the Venetian filmmaker Davide Losito. Additionally, there will be a showcase of award-winning short films from previous editions of Aqua Film Festival. The day will also include a humorous short film about Venice titled “Le glorie del leon” by the Venetian filmmaker Anna Zemella.
On March 25th, Venice’s birthday, Cinema Rossini will screen the feature film “Panorami sommersi: le origini di Venezia” by Samuele Gottardello.
The evening will conclude with the presentation of two prestigious merit awards, the “Paladino del Mare” and “Cavaliere dell’Acqua,” created by Artistic Director Eleonora Vallone and crafted by Gioielleria Marina Corazziari, honoring two outstanding Venetian figures.
Students from the Bruno – Franchetti High School and the Berna Institute in Mestre will also be involved in creating water-themed art installations.
Venice will host numerous initiatives focused on aquatic biomimicry, positioning itself as a sustainable city inspired by the intelligence of marine ecosystems. The festival will blend culture, science, and economics in a unique way.
The “Blue Renaissance” in Europe is supported by the SUMus Association, which has chosen Venice as a hub for future-forward scientific and educational initiatives. In the age of artificial intelligence, returning to the source of life – aquatic intelligence – is a true innovation. The event will feature leading scientists, innovative start-ups, educators, and artists shedding light on a new developmental model rooted in educational, agricultural, and economic regeneration.
Among the guests at Aquamour this year are Gunter Pauli, founder of Zeri and pioneer of the Blue Economy concept, Nobel Prize winner Andrea Rinaldo, biologist Marta Musso, and social impact advocate Giovanna Melandri. The event will host roundtable discussions and conferences at various locations in Venice.
Contemporary art exhibitions will be held at venues like Giudecca, Fàbrica 33, and Fucina del Futuro.
