Pontiff Hospitalized in Rome for Respiratory Tract Infection
The Vatican announced on Monday that Pope Francis’ respiratory tract infection requires a different treatment plan and an extended hospital stay due to a “complex clinical picture.”
The 88-year-old pontiff was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli hospital on Friday with bronchitis and a polymicrobial respiratory infection.
Despite his condition, Francis remains “in good spirits” and had a restful night, according to Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni. More updates on his health will be provided later today.

Unfortunately, the pope had to cancel his Sunday Angelus blessing and several events, including a visit to Rome’s CinecittĂ Film Studios, as part of the Jubilee of Artists on Monday.
Additionally, his weekly audience in St Peter’s Square on Wednesday has been canceled due to his hospitalization.
Having had part of one lung removed in his 20s, the Argentine pontiff has faced various medical issues in recent years and was previously treated for bronchitis at Gemelli hospital two years ago.
