Welcome to the latest update on the preparations for the Jubilee of the Catholic Church in 2025! Today, a joint meeting of the institutional working group and the coordination committee was held at Palazzo Chigi, led by Undersecretary of State Alfredo Mantovano.
The meeting began with Monsignor Rino Fisichella providing an overview of the ongoing Jubilee Year. So far, over 1.5 million pilgrims have passed through the Holy Door of Saint Peter’s Basilica, with significant numbers also visiting other important basilicas. The recent Jubilee of the Armed Forces, Police, and Security Forces saw an impressive turnout of around 40,000 attendees.
The management of the large number of pilgrims has been smooth, thanks to the cooperation of security forces and the successful traffic flow, aided by the new Lungotevere in Sassia underpass. Looking ahead, the Jubilee of Teenagers on April 25 is expected to draw over 100,000 participants.
Special Government Commissioner Roberto Gualtieri updated on the progress of various projects, with a majority already completed. Major upcoming events like the Jubilee of Workers and the Jubilee of Confraternities, attended by Queen Letizia of Spain, are also on the horizon.
Discussions at the meeting included safety measures for pilgrims, funding details, coordination efforts for special events, and the upcoming canonization of Carlo Acutis in Assisi. The 2025 communication campaign, featuring values-based adverts and a public information drive, was also unveiled.
Notable attendees included representatives from various ministries, Giubileo 2025 S.p.A., and RAI. Lastly, best wishes for a speedy recovery were sent to Pope Francis, who had been admitted to the hospital, on behalf of all participants.
