Welcome Sister Raffaella Petrini, F.S.E., the First Woman President of the Pontifical Commission for Vatican City State!
Exciting news from the Vatican as Pope Francis appoints Sister Raffaella Petrini as the new President of the Pontifical Commission for Vatican City State and President of the Governorate of Vatican City State, effective March 1, 2025.
Sister Petrini, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist, has already made history as the first woman to hold this prestigious position within the Vatican’s administrative structure. Previously serving as Secretary General of the Governorate, Sister Petrini is well-equipped to oversee the governance of Vatican City, ensuring its daily operations and policies are in line with the directives of the Holy See.
The Governorate plays a crucial role in managing various aspects of Vatican City’s administration, including security, infrastructure, and cultural heritage. With her new role, Sister Petrini steps into the shoes of her predecessor, Cardinal Fernando VĂ©rgez Alzaga, L.C., who served as President since 2021.
We congratulate Sister Raffaella Petrini on her groundbreaking appointment and look forward to seeing the positive changes she will bring to Vatican City State under her leadership!
