Radio Waumini – Focus on Hope
Radio Waumini marked World Radio Day by hosting a special discussion on the importance of radio in promoting peace and hope. The topic was chosen with careful consideration, aligning with the Jubilee Year of Hope and the call for renewed theological virtue among Catholic faithful. In a time where despair can easily take hold, the virtue of hope plays a vital role in overcoming challenges, especially in the face of economic hardships in Kenya.
Over 75% of Kenyans Tune in to Radio

Giving Voice to the Voiceless
Radio serves as a platform for marginalized communities to share their stories, concerns, and aspirations, amplifying the voices of the voiceless. It facilitates discussions on conflict resolution, reconciliation, and understanding among diverse communities.
Interactive radio formats, such as call-in shows, engage listeners and foster meaningful discussions on peace and hope, strengthening community ties. In challenging times, radio offers comfort through motivational programming and stories of hope, helping communities heal and progress together.
KCCB’s Initiative on Climate Change Reporting
The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) Commission for Social Communications, in collaboration with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), trained over 60 Catholic journalists on effective climate change reporting. This initiative aimed to improve environmental awareness and community engagement through media.
Following the training, participating media houses produced on-air programs dedicated to environmental issues, raising awareness and promoting community involvement.
The Unique Contribution of Catholic Media
Catholic media play a vital role in advocating for environmental stewardship, inspired by papal encyclicals like “Laudato Si.” They encourage discussions on environmental responsibilities and collaboration towards common goals, fostering proactive engagement within faith communities.
By leveraging their strengths, Catholic and secular media can educate and mobilize society in the fight against climate change and environmental degradation, creating a more informed and proactive community.
