Buckingham Palace recently announced that King Charles and Queen Camilla of England will be making a significant trip to the Vatican to meet with Pope Francis in April. The royal couple is set to undertake state visits to the Holy See and the Republic of Italy in early April 2025.
During their state visit to the Holy See, King Charles and Queen Camilla will be participating in the celebration of the 2025 Jubilee Year with His Holiness Pope Francis. The Jubilee Year, traditionally held once every 25 years, is a special time for the Catholic Church, promoting unity and hope among believers.
This visit continues the long-standing tradition of British royal involvement in the Jubilee celebrations. Queen Elizabeth II had previously visited the Vatican during the 2000 Jubilee Year, where she had a private meeting with Pope John Paul II among other encounters with various popes during her reign.
This upcoming visit will mark King Charles’ first time in Italy as monarch, and it will be his third meeting with Pope Francis, further strengthening the bond between the British monarchy and the Catholic Church.
