Pope Francis urged the armed forces, police, and security personnel to be courageous witnesses of God’s love during the Jubilee Mass. Reflecting on the Gospel account of Jesus at the Lake of Gennesaret, he highlighted three key actions: seeing, going aboard, and sitting down.
Firstly, Jesus displayed compassion by seeing the fishermen’s disappointment and offered them hope. Despite battling bronchitis, the Pope continued with his activities and asked Archbishop Diego Ravelli to read the rest of his homily.
Secondly, Jesus went aboard Simon’s boat to share in his struggles and disappointment, showcasing proactive empathy. The Pope emphasized the significance of this gesture in addressing challenges directly.
Thirdly, Jesus sat down and taught, bringing light to the fishermen’s dark night of disappointment. His presence and teachings renewed hope and enthusiasm among them.
Pope Francis underscored the message of hope and renewal when the Lord enters our lives with His love. He expressed gratitude to the armed forces, police, and security personnel for their service and dedication.
The Pope acknowledged the authorities, military associations, and chaplains present, highlighting the importance of their mission in upholding justice and defending nations.
He praised the chaplains for their role in providing moral and spiritual support, emphasizing their presence as a reflection of Christ’s companionship and encouragement.
Lastly, Pope Francis urged the personnel to remain vigilant against the temptation of a warlike spirit and to be courageous witnesses of God’s love. He encouraged them to work towards a new era of peace, justice, and fraternity.
