The Gospel describes Jesus’ actions at the Lake of Gennesaret with three verbs: he saw, he went aboard, and he sat down. Jesus’ focus was not on showcasing himself to the crowd or following a strict timetable but on connecting with people, empathizing with their struggles, and offering hope.
Jesus’ observant nature is evident in his actions – he saw, went aboard, and sat down.
Jesus’ compassionate gaze saw the disappointment on the faces of fishermen after a fruitless night of work. He approached them, acknowledging their struggles and emptiness.
Next, Jesus went aboard Simon’s boat, immersing himself in Simon’s disappointment and frustration. He chose to be present in Simon’s moment of failure.
Finally, Jesus sat down, assuming the role of a teacher, proclaiming good news, and bringing light into the darkness of despair. He revived hope and renewed enthusiasm in the fishermen’s hearts.
When Jesus enters our lives with the message of God’s love, a new beginning unfolds, hope reignites, and we can cast our nets into the sea once more.
On this special occasion of the Jubilee of the Armed Forces, Police, and Security Personnel, Pope Francis commends their service and acknowledges their vital role in society. He highlights the importance of seeing, boarding, and sitting down – being vigilant, actively engaging with challenges, and upholding justice and peace.
Chaplains play a significant role in accompanying these individuals in their noble mission, exemplifying goodness, justice, and civic responsibility in a world filled with challenges.
In the midst of chaos and uncertainty, there are those who stand as beacons of light and hope. Their role is not to condone acts of violence or war, but to embody the presence of Christ among us. They walk beside us, offering a listening ear, words of encouragement, and unwavering support in our daily struggles.
These individuals serve as moral and spiritual guides, helping us navigate through life’s challenges with the wisdom of the Gospel and the pursuit of the greater good. They are the unsung heroes who accompany us every step of the way, empowering us to fulfill our mission and make a positive impact on the world.
Dear brothers and sisters, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to these courageous souls who selflessly risk their own safety to protect and uplift others. They remind us to stay the course, to promote life, and to be steadfast defenders of peace. Let us not succumb to the allure of power or the false promises of war, but instead, let us be vigilant in spreading love and unity.
Together, let us strive to build a world where peace, justice, and fraternity reign supreme. Let us be the architects of a new era, where compassion triumphs over conflict, and understanding conquers division.
