Welcome, dear readers of Exaudi! Monsignor Enrique Díaz Díaz shares his insightful reflection on the Gospel of this Sunday, February 9, 2025, titled: “Confident in your word”
***
Isaiah 6, 1-2. 3-8: “Here I am, Lord, send me”
Psalm 137: “When we called upon you, Lord, you heard us”
I Corinthians 15, 1-11: “This is what we have preached and what you have believed”
Saint Luke 5, 1-11: “Leaving everything, they followed him”
In times of crisis, some choose to flee, while others find strength in God’s mercy and love. The readings of the day speak of a divine call to build a new world, emphasizing that God’s call is a gift given freely. We see Isaiah, Paul, and Peter answering this call with courage and commitment.
St. Luke narrates the disciples’ transformative encounter with Jesus, leading them to leave everything and follow him. This profound change often starts with a single impactful event, as seen in the disciples’ lives.
The theme of vocation is central in today’s liturgy, extending beyond religious life to encompass God’s call for all individuals to participate in building a better world. The call demands a sincere response and a willingness to trust in Jesus’ word.
Today, being a fisher of men means actively participating in initiatives that promote equality, peace, and a shift in societal values. It requires casting off fears and failures, trusting in the transformative power of God’s love.
Reflecting on our response to Jesus’ call, our limitations, and our role as “fishers of men” is crucial in embracing God’s mission for us. Let us trust in His word and work towards a society built on love and compassion.
Lord, guide us with your unwavering love and strengthen our resolve to follow your Word. May we never lose hope in the face of failure, and may the Resurrection of your Son inspire us to live out our faith every day. Amen.
