Pope Francis Urges Us to Make Our Talents Bear Fruit at Vocation Congress in Spain

Emphasizing a perspective that sees the needs of our fellow brothers and sisters, Pope Francis shares this message in a new letter to participants at the National Congress on Vocations in Spain, titled For Whom Am I? Assembly of those Called to Mission.
The Congress, gathering 3,000 attendees from 70 Spanish dioceses, along with 65 bishops, 54 lay movements and associations, 120 religious congregations, and 250 mission-driven entities, marks the conclusion of the Spanish bishops’ pastoral plan initiated in 2021. Approximately one-third of the participants are under 35 years old.
Reflecting on the biblical story of the rich young man, Pope Francis highlights the importance of using our talents and possessions to benefit others. He stresses the need for a total gift of ourselves in following Jesus and living a life of love for others.
Addressing the recent acts of courage and solidarity in response to the floods in Spain, Pope Francis underscores that our purpose lies in serving others. He contrasts the actions of the rich young man with those who generously help disaster victims, migrants, or those affected by tragedies like the La Palma volcano eruption.
The Pope calls for a universal generosity, warning against squandering resources that can distance us from God and others. He urges us to bring God into all aspects of our lives, emphasizing that our vocation lies in loving one another.
The Congress, opened with greetings from Bishop Luis Argüello, Cardinal José Cobo, Archbishop José Manuel García Cordeiro, and the Apostolic Nuncio to Spain. The event features discussions on key themes like Word, Community, Subject, and Mission, with workshops and a final report summarizing insights and recommendations.
Let us heed Pope Francis’ call to make our talents bear fruit and serve others, bringing God into every aspect of our lives.
