The Power of Nonviolence: South Sudan Council of Churches Launches Booklet for Peace
In a country plagued by conflicts and ethnic tensions, the South Sudan Council of Churches (SSCC) is taking a bold step towards fostering peace and reconciliation. Their latest initiative involves the launch of a booklet on nonviolence, designed to inspire hope and transformation within communities.
Collaborating with PAX, a renowned peace organization based in the Netherlands, the SSCC aims to empower Church leaders and individuals to actively promote nonviolent solutions to the country’s deep-rooted issues.
During the launch event, Rev. Tut Kony Nyang Kon, General Secretary of the SSCC, emphasized the importance of translating words into actions. He urged Church leaders to become beacons of hope and agents of transformation, guiding their communities towards reconciliation and unity.
Titled “Active Non-Violence,” the booklet serves as a valuable resource for understanding nonviolence as a divine mandate and a practical approach to conflict resolution. It challenges individuals to embrace love, forgiveness, and dialogue as pathways to lasting peace.
Campaigning for Change
Nonviolence campaigns are essential in promoting peace, justice, and reconciliation in South Sudan. Rev. Nyang urged Church leaders to actively engage with their congregations, using platforms like preaching, teaching, and outreach evangelism to spread the message of nonviolence.
By advocating for nonviolence and embracing a culture of peace, the SSCC hopes to pave the way for a brighter, more harmonious future for South Sudan.
