The Regnum Christi Federation is thrilled to announce that the Holy See has officially approved its Statutes, solidifying its identity and mission within the Church. This significant approval was granted by the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life.
In a heartfelt letter, the Dicastery expressed its hope that “the Statutes will help to promote the common charism and foster collaboration in fulfilling the mission entrusted to them by the Church.” This recognition not only provides strength and stability to Regnum Christi but also allows for future assessments and adjustments as the charism evolves.
Embracing Renewal and Unity
The final approval of the Statutes marks the culmination of a renewal process that began in 2010, aiming to clearly articulate the shared charism of the Legionaries of Christ, the Consecrated Women, the Lay Consecrated Men, and the lay associates. Following this journey, on May 31, 2019, the Holy See formally established the Regnum Christi Federation and approved its Statutes “ad experimentum,” granting a five-year period for implementation and evaluation.
Over this period, the Federation has flourished in unity and collaboration, fortifying its structures and deepening its understanding of the charism and mission. The 2024 Regnum Christi General Convention evaluated the Statutes’ implementation and confirmed their adequacy in expressing the Federation’s identity and functioning, determining that no modifications are needed at this time. Based on this evaluation, the General Convention requested the Holy See to definitively approve the text.
Significance and Impact
This formal recognition by the Holy See serves as a testament to the mission of Regnum Christi and strengthens the commitment of its members to faithfully and diligently live out their charism. The Statutes, aside from providing a legal and organizational framework, serve as a pivotal reference for the spiritual and apostolic identity of the Federation.
The General Board of Directors emphasized in a letter to Regnum Christi members that “the official recognition reaffirms the validity of the path taken and strengthens our commitment to confidently and courageously live out the mission entrusted to us.” They also highlighted that the Statutes serve as a “light and criterion of discernment” for all members of this spiritual family.
As the Church prepares to celebrate the Jubilee of Hope in 2025, this milestone encourages Regnum Christi members to continue growing in their understanding of the charism and dedication to the evangelizing mission.
