The Global Day of Prayer for Peace in Myanmar: A Call to Action
As the world grapples with various conflicts and crises, it’s easy for some to slip under the radar and be forgotten. One such conflict is the ongoing civil war in Myanmar, which has been raging for 4 years now, leaving 20 million people in dire need of humanitarian aid, 15 million facing food insecurity, and 3.5 million internally displaced.
Regina Lynch, Executive President of Aid to the Church in Need International, expresses concern that this conflict has become a forgotten one, with many people unaware of the suffering and turmoil faced by the people of Myanmar.
To bring attention to this forgotten crisis, Aid to the Church in Need has organized a Global Day of Prayer for peace in Myanmar on February 1. This initiative aims to unite people worldwide in prayer for the victims, families, young people, priests, and religious affected by the violence in Myanmar.
Joining in Prayer for Peace
The Global Day of Prayer includes 24-hour Eucharistic Adoration, starting at the International Headquarters in Germany and continuing at 23 ACN offices around the world. Everyone is invited to participate in the vigils and offer special prayers for those affected by the conflict.
Despite the challenges and dangers posed by the ongoing violence, priests, religious, and lay catechists in Myanmar continue to courageously provide spiritual comfort and the sacraments to those in need, traveling through treacherous terrain to reach displaced communities.
A Message of Hope
Regina Lynch emphasizes the importance of not forgetting countries like Myanmar that are grappling with ongoing conflicts. She urges the world to remember the millions of victims and refugees affected by the violence and to continue hoping and praying for a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
As we stand in solidarity with the people of Myanmar on this Global Day of Prayer, let us collectively raise our voices in prayer and hope for a brighter and more peaceful future for all those impacted by conflict around the world.
