Four years have passed since the coup in Myanmar on February 1, and the country is still struggling with conflict and turmoil. To commemorate this tragic event, Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) is organizing a 24-hour Global Day of Prayer for peace in Myanmar.
Joining in Prayer
On February 1, ACN’s headquarters and 23 national offices worldwide will lead prayer shifts throughout the day. People from all corners of the globe, from Australia to Cameroon, Scotland to Guam, are invited to unite in prayer for peace and reconciliation in Myanmar.
Regina Lynch, the Executive President of ACN International, emphasizes the significance of this initiative as an opportunity for people worldwide to come together in a collective plea for peace.
This Global Day of Prayer is dedicated to the victims of the conflict and the people of Myanmar who continue to suffer from violence, hunger, and displacement. Despite the risks, priests and religious in the country persevere in their mission to provide aid and support to those in need.
Challenges Persist
Instead of subsiding, the conflict in Myanmar has escalated over the years. The United States Institute of Peace has described 2024 as a particularly devastating year for the country, with millions internally displaced and thousands of civilians killed.
As we observe February 1, let us remember the ongoing struggles faced by the people of Myanmar – the displaced, the youth with uncertain futures, and the brave religious individuals risking their lives to bring assistance to those in need.
