Greetings, dear brothers and sisters, and happy Sunday!
This Sunday, we find Jesus in the synagogue in Nazareth, where He grew up, reading a passage from the prophet Isaiah about the Messiah’s mission. He boldly declares that the Scripture has been fulfilled in Him, causing astonishment among His fellow citizens who only knew Him as Joseph’s son, the carpenter.
Imagine the confusion they must have felt as Jesus proclaimed the arrival of a year acceptable to the Lord, bringing good news to the poor, captives, blind, and oppressed.
Just like the people of Nazareth, we too may struggle to fully recognize Jesus. We may think we know Him well, having grown up in a culture saturated with His teachings. But do we truly grasp the authority and salvation He offers us?
Let us reflect on whether we feel the need for His saving grace in our lives. Only then can we truly experience the year of grace that Jesus brings.
As we navigate our journey of faith, let us seek the intercession of Mary, the Mother of God, to help us see Jesus more clearly.
After the Angelus, Pope Francis addressed the ongoing conflict in Sudan and South Sudan, urging peace and humanitarian aid for the affected regions. He also expressed concern for the situation in Colombia and called for unity in combating discrimination and religious persecution.
On World Leprosy Day, he commended those working to support leprosy patients and promote their reintegration into society. As the world commemorates the victims of the Holocaust, Pope Francis emphasized the importance of eradicating anti-Semitism and fostering a more fraternal, just world.
He concluded by sending greetings to various groups and individuals, including journalists, students, and pilgrims, urging them to be messengers of hope and fraternity.
Let us take Pope Francis’s words to heart and strive to live out our faith with a spirit of openness, forgiveness, and peace. Have a blessed Sunday, and remember to keep the Pope in your prayers.
