Beneath one of the most beautiful squares in Rome, Piazza Navona, lies the remains of the Stadium of Domitian, approximately 4.50 meters below the current street level. This archaeological area, one of the most impressive structures of ancient Rome, is all that remains of the first and only known example of a masonry stadium in Rome.
Walking through the ancient stadium, visitors can see the inns and shops that once surrounded it, as well as the grand arches leading to the arena and the steep stairs that spectators climbed to reach the stands.
