Welcome to the Jubilee of the World of Communication!
Imagine ten thousand people, from young adults to high-profile business CEOs, coming together in Rome for a unique event. This isn’t a concert or a conference – it’s the Jubilee of the World of Communication.
Celebrating Communication
The first jubilee event of the Holy Year, the Jubilee of the World of Communication, kicks off with a penitential liturgy at the Basilica of St. John Lateran on the feast of the patron saint of journalists and writers – St. Francis de Sales.
From January 24-26, attendees embark on a journey that includes a pilgrimage to the Holy Door, an audience with Pope Francis, and a concluding Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica. This event marks the beginning of the Jubilee Year of Hope, emphasizing the power of communication to build relationships and share stories.
Pope Francis often stresses the importance of communication, urging professionals to combat loneliness, give voice to the voiceless, and communicate truthfully.
Storytelling is Fundamental to Democracy
At the Jubilee of the World of Communication, renowned communicators Colum McCann and Maria Ressa share their insights. McCann, co-founder of Narrative 4, highlights the power of storytelling to unite people. He believes that sharing stories is essential to understanding each other and fostering democracy.
Ressa, CEO of Rappler, echoes McCann’s sentiments, emphasizing the need for real conversations based on shared values. She discusses the vital roles of influencers and journalists in today’s communication landscape, with journalists upholding ethical standards and influencers adapting information for diverse audiences.
As we navigate a technology-driven world, the Jubilee of the World of Communication reminds us of the significance of storytelling, dialogue, and ethical communication in fostering understanding and unity.
