Exciting News: Pro-life activist Paul Vaughn Receives Pardon from President Trump
Pro-life activist Paul Vaughn was overjoyed to receive the news that President Donald Trump had pardoned him and 22 other pro-life demonstrators. The announcement came in the middle of a press conference with his lawyers at the Thomas More Society.
Reflecting on the moment, Vaughn shared, “I have a lot of thoughts. It’s a big ordeal, and it’s been a long time going through all this.”
The pardon marked the end of the Biden administration’s prosecution of Vaughn and his fellow pro-life activists, including elderly and infirm women who were imprisoned for peacefully protesting abortion.
In March 2021, Vaughn and 10 other activists were convicted of violating the federal Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act for a demonstration outside a Tennessee abortion clinic. While prosecutors sought a one-year prison sentence, Vaughn was ultimately sentenced to three years of supervised release in July 2024. His case was on appeal prior to the pardon.
During a conference on free speech and the abortion pill reversal process at the Thomas More Society, Steve Crampton, senior counsel, interrupted the discussion with the exciting news. He read aloud a social media post announcing Trump’s pardons for the 23 activists, leading to a jubilant reaction from all present.
