Donald Trump sparked controversy with his recent comments on the January 6 insurrectionists, claiming they were treated like the worst criminals when all they were doing was protesting against the allegedly rigged 2020 election. In an interview with Fox News, the former president defended the rioters of the Capitol Hill assault, stating that many of them were innocent and only minor incidents occurred with the police.
Trump went on to accuse the House select committee investigating the January 6th attack of destroying evidence and granting clemency to criminals, singling out Liz Cheney, a prominent member of the committee who was pardoned by Joe Biden.
“I truly believe that if I hadn’t won the election, the United States would have been lost forever,” Trump asserted. “All the problems America faces right now are solvable: with dedication, hard work, and money,” he added from the Oval Office.
