Newly sworn-in U.S. Vice President JD Vance is set to address the 52nd annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 24, as announced by the March for Life Education and Defense Fund on Thursday.
Vance, the country’s second Catholic vice president, will be among the speakers at the event, alongside Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson and Republican Senate Majority Leader John Thune.
This marks Vance’s debut appearance at the National March for Life in Washington, D.C., having previously spoken at the 2023 Ohio March for Life during his time as a U.S. senator. This year’s march will be the third since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.
“We are delighted that Vice President Vance has selected the National March for Life for his first public appearance in his new role, highlighting his dedication to the pro-life cause,” said March for Life President Jeanne Mancini and President-elect Jennie Bradley Lichter in a joint statement.
“President [Donald] Trump led as a pro-life president during his first term, achieving a number of significant milestones,” they added. “We eagerly anticipate collaborating with him and Vice President Vance as they combat the Biden administration’s aggressive and unpopular abortion agenda, and work towards securing victories for the vulnerable unborn children and their mothers.”
Other speakers at the event will include Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Rep. Chris Smith from New Jersey, Live Action President Lila Rose, and Bishop Daniel Thomas from Toledo, Ohio, who serves as the chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Pro-Life Activities.
President Trump is slated to be in California on Friday, visiting areas affected by wildfires, and will not be present at the March for Life. He made history in 2020 as the first sitting president to personally address the march, and had done so via video calls in 2019 and 2018 during his presidency.
