Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti to Visit Syria on Mission from Pope Francis
Exciting news has emerged as Pope Francis has entrusted Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti, the Prefect of the Vatican’s Dicastery for the Eastern Churches, with a special mission to visit Syria. This visit aims to bring the Pope’s closeness and blessings to the Catholics in this Middle Eastern nation.
Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti, along with Archbishop Michel Jalakh and Father Emanuel Sabadakh, will embark on a six-day visit to Syria from 24 to 29 January. This mission, entrusted by Pope Francis, seeks to offer support and affection to the troubled nation’s faithful amidst challenging circumstances.
During his visit, Cardinal Gugerotti will meet with Bishops, priests, religious individuals, and Catholic communities in various cathedrals across Syria, including the Greek-Melkite, Maronite, Chaldean, Syrian, Armenian, and Latin churches. He will also engage with leaders, clergy, and charitable organizations in Damascus and Aleppo, as well as participate in the Plenary Assembly of Catholic Bishops in Homs.
Furthermore, Cardinal Gugerotti will meet with Patriarchs of Orthodox Churches, emphasizing the importance of Christian unity and cooperation in such turbulent times. He will preside over Mass on the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul, venerate relics of Holy Martyrs, and extend Pope Francis’ greetings to the Patriarchs, highlighting the Catholic Church’s readiness for collaboration.
