Welcome to the vibrant world of Catholic communications in Eastern Africa! As we gear up for the upcoming Jubilee of Communications in Rome, we are filled with excitement and anticipation. It’s a time for us to delve into innovative communication strategies that harness the power of digital technology.
Leading the charge is a group of dedicated Catholic communicators from Eastern Africa, who are all set to make their mark at this prestigious event. They represent the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) region and are eager to explore new avenues in the ever-evolving field of communications.
Decades after the decree Inter Mirifica in 1963 and the pastoral directive Communio et Progressio in 1971, AMECEA bishops are gathering once again to assess and revamp their communication strategies. Fr. Andrew Kaufa, AMECEA’s coordinator for social communications, emphasizes the need to adapt to the digital age that now dominates the communication landscape.
Strengthening AMECEA communicators through the Jubilee visit
The 2025 Jubilee, themed “Pilgrims of Hope,” is a beacon of light for the Church, offering a platform to enhance evangelization efforts. Fr. Kaufa underscores the importance of this event in raising awareness among bishops and national communication coordinators about the latest trends and pastoral approaches in communication.
He highlights the synodal approach that the Jubilee fosters, bringing together key stakeholders to navigate the challenges of communication with a sense of hope. National communication coordinators are committed to engaging with Catholic media apostolates to inspire hope among the faithful.
African communicators united in their journey
The Jubilee for the World of Communications is not just a gathering of AMECEA communicators but also a convergence of media professionals from around the globe. Fr. Kaufa reflects on the golden jubilee of the Pan African Committee for Social Communications (CEPACS) in 2023, emphasizing the varied communication structures across different regions under SECAM.
He envisions this Jubilee as an opportunity for African participants to collaborate, innovate, and advise SECAM through CEPACS. The event in Rome may pave the way for further gatherings in Africa, fostering a spirit of unity and progress in Church communication.
