Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin recently held a meeting with 14 pontifical representatives from the Middle East in Jordan to address the ongoing challenges and hostilities in the region.
The papal representatives from Bahrain, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Syria, and Yemen were present at the meeting.
Discussions revolved around the current crises affecting the region, emphasizing the urgent need for Christians to address the political and humanitarian issues impacting the local populations.
The statement released by the Holy See highlighted the shared hope for a cessation of hostilities across all fronts, aiming for peace to prevail in the Middle East.
Recognizing the role of Christians in fostering peaceful coexistence among different religions and contributing to the progress of their nations, the meeting underscored the importance of unity and collaboration.
This meeting followed Cardinal Parolin’s participation in the consecration of the Church of the Baptism of Jesus at Al-Maghtas on Jan. 10, a significant site in Jordan where Christ was baptized by St. John the Baptist.
