Archbishop José Manuel Imbamba of the Archdiocese of Saurimo in Angola has shared a courageous revelation about his past experiences.
In an interview with Radio Ecclesia on his 60th birthday, Archbishop Imbamba reflected on the dangers he encountered in 2003 after Angola’s post-election turmoil.
“My priestly journey has been marked by challenges. I was ordained amidst the turmoil of war in Luena, facing numerous hardships,” Archbishop Imbamba recounted.
He further disclosed, “In 2003, during the aftermath of the elections, I found myself on a list of individuals targeted for elimination.”
Angola’s initial elections in 1992 were marred by violence, sparking a civil conflict that persisted until 2002.
“I have faced direct threats from individuals due to my unwavering stance on truth and justice. These threats were intended to intimidate and discredit both myself and the Church. Nevertheless, I stand firm in owning my words and actions,” Archbishop Imbamba asserted.
