Mark your calendars for the inauguration of Piazza dei Cinquecento in Rome: the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the first phase of the renovation works at the square in front of Termini Station will take place on the morning of Tuesday, January 14th. Initially planned for January 10th, the date was postponed due to a transportation strike. Despite delays in scheduling, the new square is almost complete and ahead of the original timeline set by the Government for the Jubilee. The City of Rome emphasizes that there have been no delays compared to the initial plan.
As part of the same renovation project, the new pedestrian square at Piazza della Repubblica and the new walkway on Via Cernaia were inaugurated at the end of December. The works at Piazza dei Cinquecento have been divided into phases, with one to be completed by the Jubilee and the other to be finished after the Holy Year to avoid disruptions for citizens and pilgrims in the central transportation hub of the Capital.
According to Anas, the agency responsible for the works, the Piazza dei Cinquecento project covers a vast area of 8 hectares, equivalent to almost eight football fields. The comprehensive construction site is a significant endeavor aimed at revitalizing this iconic area of Rome.
