Zambia’s Missionary of Synodality: Fr. Cletus Mwiila
Zambia’s own Fr. Cletus Mwiila, known as a missionary of synodality, is making waves in the country with his message of community engagement and unity. After attending a ‘Parish Priests for Synodality’ meeting in Rome in May 2024, Fr. Mwiila has taken Pope Francis’ mandate to heart, becoming a missionary of synodality in his own parish.
Fr. Mwiila, hailing from St. Mary’s Choma Parish in Monze Diocese, has been actively spreading awareness about the Synod in Zambia. He is pleased with the reception of the Synod’s message in the country, emphasizing the importance of allowing everyone to fully participate in the life of the Church.
The Heart of Synodality: Christ
According to Fr. Mwiila, synodality is not about theological theories but about following in the footsteps of Christ, who reached out to all, regardless of their status. It is a new narrative of the Church that invites everyone to be active partners in the community.
A Message of Unity and Inclusion
Fr. Mwiila’s mission is clear: to listen, walk together, and invite everyone to participate. He believes that the message of synodality is not just for Catholics but for all, promoting unity and understanding among different communities and sectors of Zambian society.
Embracing Diversity and Embracing All
Fr. Mwiila urges Zambians to set aside divisions based on race, ethnicity, politics, or religion and to see each other as brothers and sisters. Just as Jesus welcomed sinners and washed their feet as a sign of humility and service, we are all called to come together in unity and love.
