SS. Lazio Celebrates 125 Years of Football Excellence
SS. Lazio, the fifth oldest football club in Italy, marked its 125th anniversary with a grand celebration in Rome. Over 4,000 enthusiastic fans gathered in the Prati neighbourhood to honor the rich history of the Italian Serie A club.
The festivities kicked off with a midnight countdown tradition at Piazza della Libertà, where the club was founded on 9 January 1900. The celebrations continued with a special ceremony at Rome city hall, recognizing SS. Lazio’s achievements in various sports including football, athletics, swimming, and rugby.
To commemorate this milestone anniversary, the football club unveiled a special 125th-anniversary kit that pays tribute to its Roman heritage and endless love for Lazio.
Since its inception, SS. Lazio has stood the test of time, surviving challenges and remaining a symbol of resilience. In 1927, the club defiantly resisted the fascist regime’s attempts to merge all Roman teams into what would later become AS Roma.
With a legacy that dates back to 1900, SS. Lazio proudly holds the title of the fifth oldest football club in Italy. It follows Genoa (1893), Udinese (1896), Juventus (1897), and Milan (1899), preceding Atalanta (1907) by seven years and Inter (1908) by eight.
