The Pope’s upcoming agenda is a perfect blend of tradition and Jubilee novelties. Archbishop Diego Ravelli, the master of papal liturgical celebrations, announced today, January 8, the exciting lineup of events that Francis will preside over in the coming weeks.
The Week for Christian Unity
One of the traditional events is the celebration of Second Vespers in the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls on January 25 at 5:30 p.m. This event marks the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, now in its 58th edition in 2025. The theme for this year, “Do you believe this?” is inspired by a verse in the Gospel of John. The texts for reflection have been curated by the Monastic Community of Bose, commemorating the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea.
First Masses of the Holy Year
On January 26, all eyes will be on the Jubilee of the world of communication, the first major event of the Holy Year. Francis will lead the Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica at 9:30 a.m.
February 1, the feast of the Presentation of the Lord, will see the Pope presiding over the First Vespers at 5 p.m. in the Vatican Basilica. Then, on Sunday, February 9, another significant event of the Holy Year will take place with Francis leading a Mass for the Jubilee of the Armed Forces, Police, and Security at 10:30 a.m. in St. Peter’s Square.
