Welcome to the Jubilee Year 2025!
Step right up and join over half a million pilgrims who have already passed through the Holy Door of St Peter’s Basilica in the first two weeks of the Jubilee Year 2025. The journey of faith and reflection has begun, with 545,532 faithful from all corners of the world making their way to Rome to partake in this spiritual experience.
The Jubilee Year officially kicked off on December 24, 2024, and pilgrims have been arriving in waves, walking up Via della Conciliazione led by the symbolic Jubilee Cross to reach the majestic St Peter’s Basilica.
A Remarkable Start to the Jubilee
Archbishop Rino Fisichella, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelisation and the mastermind behind the Jubilee, expressed his delight at the significant number of pilgrims who have already crossed the threshold. He commended the groups marching up Via della Conciliazione, noting the strong sense of safety and security felt by pilgrims in the city of Rome and around the four papal basilicas.
The Vatican, in collaboration with Italian authorities and the Rome Prefecture, has been working tirelessly to ensure the smooth and safe organization of the pilgrim influx. Despite initial challenges, Archbishop Fisichella assured that improvements are underway to enhance the pilgrim experience.
With the opening of the final Holy Door at St Paul Outside the Walls on January 5, pilgrims can now complete their journey by passing through the Holy Doors of all four major papal basilicas in Rome: St Peter’s Basilica, St John Lateran, St Mary Major, and St Paul Outside the Walls.
To accommodate the high demand, pilgrims are encouraged to book their visit in advance via the official Jubilee website, iubilaeum2025.va.
Exciting Times Ahead
The Jubilee for Communication, the first major event of the Jubilee Year, is scheduled to take place from January 24 to 26. Journalists, media experts, and communication professionals will converge in Rome for this grand occasion, as the Vatican and Rome prepare to welcome millions more throughout the Jubilee.
