The Guiding Star: A Call to Seek Christ in All Things
On the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord, Pope Francis presided over Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica, reflecting on the significance of the star that led the Magi to Jesus. He emphasized that the star, visible to all, serves as a symbol of God’s dream for a united human family living harmoniously in prosperity and peace.
In his homily, the Holy Father highlighted three key characteristics of the guiding star. Firstly, he described it as “bright,” symbolizing the selfless love of God who sacrificed His life for humanity. Pope Francis urged believers to emulate this love by radiating faith, compassion, and kindness in their interactions with others.
Secondly, the Pope emphasized that the star was visible to everyone, not just a select few, inviting all individuals to seek Christ with sincerity. He emphasized the importance of inclusivity and the rejection of discrimination in fostering communities of welcome and encounter.
Lastly, Pope Francis linked the star’s role in pointing the way to the concept of pilgrimage, encouraging believers to free their hearts from selfishness and embrace a journey towards encountering Christ fully. He concluded by urging all to emulate the early Christians as followers “of the Way,” seeking humility in walking together and welcoming one another generously.
As we ponder the significance of the guiding star, let us remember to seek Christ in all aspects of our lives, embodying His love through our actions and interactions with others.
