Welcome to the latest update from the Vatican! Today, the Holy Father Francis graced the nearly 30,000 faithful and pilgrims gathered in St. Peter’s Square by reciting the Angelus at noon from the window of the study in the Vatican Apostolic Palace.
On the eve of the Epiphany celebration, the Pope inspired the crowd to take the first step towards overcoming difficulties and follow the example of the Lord to find light in a world yearning for hope and peace.
Words of the Pope
Dear brothers and sisters, happy Sunday! And well done for braving the rain! Happy Sunday!
Reflecting on the Gospel passage (cf. Jn 1:1-18) about Jesus as the Word incarnate, the Pope emphasized the power of God’s love, which shines through darkness and remains undefeated. He highlighted how God’s love transcends barriers and divisions, as seen in the Christmas narrative where Jesus breaks through societal norms and embraces the marginalized.
The Pope stressed that God always finds ways to reach everyone, offering light and hope even in the darkest times. In a world craving for peace and hope, the Pope encouraged everyone to emulate God’s love by spreading compassion, forgiveness, and reconciliation wherever they go.
As we embark on a new year, the Pope urged individuals to ponder on how they can be a beacon of light in their surroundings and relationships, spreading God’s love through their actions. He called for a collective effort to bring brightness and hope to a world in need.
May Mary, the guiding star to Jesus, empower us to be radiant bearers of the Father’s love to all.
