A tragic incident has shaken the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City as news reports confirm the passing of Sister Veronica Higgins of the Carmelite Sisters of St. Thérèse of the Infant Jesus. The religious sister was involved in a fatal car accident on a rural highway northwest of the city.
Sister Higgins, 74, lost her life when her vehicle veered off the road, collided with a tree, and ended up in a nearby creek, according to local authorities. The accident occurred on Oklahoma Highway 3, near Okarche, the hometown of Blessed Stanley Rother.
Reports suggest that Sister Higgins may have been unwell at the time of the incident, with troopers indicating that a medical episode likely caused the collision, as per KOCO.
Archbishop Paul Coakley of Oklahoma City expressed his condolences for Sister Veronica Higgins, emphasizing the sudden and unexpected nature of her passing. He appealed to the community to join in prayers for the peaceful repose of her soul and for the well-being of the Carmelite Sisters of St. Thérèse of the Infant Jesus.
