Step into ancient Rome’s history. On the Celio hill, through a gate of the Servian Walls, we will walk along one of the most charming ancient Roman streets in Rome; as soon as we enter, we will find ourselves in an extraordinary archaeological complex that encapsulates over four centuries of history.
The Houses, discovered in 1887, are one of the most fascinating locations in Rome’s underground; the remarkably preserved rooms, richly decorated with delicate and refined frescoes, reveal an extremely sophisticated world. We will follow their transformations until the change of use when the church of SS. Giovanni e Paolo was built; the construction of the church led to the abandonment of the domus rooms which were no longer accessible.
