Embracing the legacy of St. John Paul II’s mission from the 2000 Jubilee, a U.S.-based jubilee network is teaming up with international aid organizations to offer debt relief for the world’s poorest countries in the upcoming 2025 Jubilee Year.
Caritas Internationalis and Jubilee USA Network representatives unveiled the “Turn Debt into Hope” campaign, a five-year initiative, during a Vatican press conference on Dec. 23 as reported by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.
Eric LeCompte, the Executive Director of Jubilee USA Network, expressed during the conference that the organization is initiating this effort to complete the unfinished business of Jubilee 2000, where John Paul II urged the international community to provide debt relief for impoverished nations, as stated by Catholic News Service, the U.S. news agency.
