Good evening from our editorial team in the studio with Giuliano Ferrigno. We wish all our listeners a Merry Christmas.
Tonight’s headlines begin with Christmas under the bombs in Ukraine. Kiev reports a massive aerial attack with drone missiles from Russia. Throughout the country, several areas have imposed emergency blackouts during the attack. The Ukrainian Air Force scrambled fighter jets as Russian strategic bombers took off from the Black Sea. Moscow is accused of bombing energy infrastructure, flying over Moldova and Romania.
In Italy, the Christmas season kicked off with Pope Francis opening the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica for the Jubilee. The Pope highlighted the importance of speaking out against injustice, especially in times of war. Thousands gathered in St. Peter’s Square for the Christmas celebration.
Tragically, a fatal car accident occurred last night in Foggia, resulting in one death and one injury. An ambulance carrying a wounded woman collided with a car, causing the death of a Bulgarian passenger. The driver and another passenger sustained minor injuries.
Another fatal incident occurred in Milan, where a 52-year-old worker was crushed between a garbage truck and a parked car. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.
As the holiday season approaches, millions of Italians are traveling, with over 60% choosing domestic destinations and 12% heading abroad. The trend this year is for shorter, more fragmented holidays outside the traditional peak periods.
