At 91 years old, Fernanda Santorsola, the first woman in Italy to lead a Mobile Police Team of the State Police, is writing an autobiographical book to gift to her colleagues and friends in Ancona who have always supported her throughout her career and with whom she has shared many years of work.
“The revenge of memory.. when Eva challenged Adam and joined the Police” is the title of the book written by the former super cop. This morning, at her home, she was visited by her ‘team’ composed of excellent investigators from the Mobile and former Criminal Investigation Department of Ancona, who honored her with a bouquet of flowers.
Fernanda, who after retirement also served as a peace judge in Ancona, despite encountering a thousand difficulties over time and in the different operational contexts in which she served, had the strength to uphold the sense of duty and correctness, earning the highest respect and recognition from the State Police Administration and civil society. The book is not just a list of activities carried out in her career, but a collection of emotions and memories that her exceptional memory returns to the reader, in a precise, detailed manner, accompanied by images and newspaper articles highlighting the value of a woman who had to fight to emerge in society.
Fernanda Santorsola, of Pugliese origins and a graduate in Law, despite some reluctance from her family who did not approve of her life choices, won the competition in the early 1960s to join the Women’s Police Force. Her first assignment was at the Police Headquarters in Brindisi. After some time, she was transferred to Ancona, which became her adopted city, where she handled numerous important investigations. She was sent on missions to the most delicate operational scenarios in the country to deal with specific crimes that made national headlines, such as the case of the “Marsala monster”: a moment where she showcased her innate investigative intuition, crucial for capturing the man who, in 1971, committed abuses and killings of children.
Appointed Head of the Mobile Police Team in Ancona, the first position given to a woman in Italy, Santorsola and her team of investigators managed to dismantle various criminal organizations dedicated to drug trafficking, robberies, extortion, theft, and other crimes in the Ancona area. This morning, Commissioner Daniela Iscaro and the president of the Doric Section of the National Association of State Police, Giovanni Aguzzi, visited Fernanda, bringing greetings and congratulations from the Police Chief Cesare Capocasa and the National President of ANPS, Michele Paternoster.
