Rome is getting ready for the Jubilee 2025: new pedestrian areas, restoration of historical monuments like the Trevi Fountain and Sant’Angelo Bridge, and expected completions such as the Calatrava Sails. Here is a map of the main construction sites and monuments, either completed or restored for the Jubilee.
La nuova piazza Pia
From the new Piazza Pia, the symbolic construction site of the Jubilee, to the restoration of the city’s historical fountains, from the Trevi Fountain to the fountains of Piazza Navona. And then there’s the new fully pedestrianized Via Ottaviano, the restoration of the statues of Ponte Sant’Angelo, and the construction sites that will be inaugurated in a few hours, from Piazza dei Cinquecento (part of it) to Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano. Many others will be completed throughout 2025. Here’s a map of the monuments and construction sites that have reopened or will be inaugurated shortly, to start taking a look at the city of Rome that is beginning to change in anticipation of the Holy Year.
Piazza Pia, the symbolic construction site of the Jubilee
The new Piazza Pia is the symbolic construction site of the Jubilee. Mayor Gualtieri has nicknamed it the ‘square of embrace’. The pedestrian area that connects the area of Castel Sant’Angelo and Lungotevere with Via della Conciliazione and Piazza San Pietro can accommodate up to 150,000 people and will host the most important events of the Jubilee. The underpass built under the square promises to solve the traffic problems of an entire quadrant.

Via Ottaviano pedestrianized, the new boulevard of Rome
The new Via Ottaviano, entirely pedestrianized, connects the Ottaviano metro stop with the area of Piazza Risorgimento and the Vatican. Inaugurated a few days ago, the ‘boulevard’, as Mayor Gualtieri called it, is already a success, with thousands of Romans strolling among the shops for Christmas shopping.

Via piscinetta e passerella, Fontana di Trevi torna all’antico splendore
After three months of restoration, the basin of the Trevi Fountain has been refilled and both the walkway and the little pool for throwing coins have been removed, a highly contested practice. Visits to the fountain will be by reservation only, with a maximum of 400 visitors at a time. For now, access will be free of charge.

La nuova piazza Risorgimento, quasi interamente pedonale
The new pedestrian area of Piazza Risorgimento has been inaugurated. From a major car transit roundabout in the Prati district, the square becomes a meeting place and a connection point between Via Ottaviano and the Vatican.
