Students from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds at the Catholic University in Erbil are joyfully commemorating the Nativity of the Lord.
In a statement released by the university, this gesture symbolizes its commitment to being an inclusive educational and humanitarian institution that welcomes everyone without discrimination.
An Annual Tradition
Christmas at the campus has evolved into a symbol of cultural unity, with Muslim and Christian students working together in festive preparations such as adorning the Christmas tree.
This event, which has gained popularity due to the students’ desire for this meaningful exchange, has now become a cherished annual tradition.
Celebrating Together
Despite its name, “The Catholic University,” this year saw a significant turnout from individuals of various religions, reflecting the growing trust in Catholic education and the university within the region.
In the current academic year, the university, which boasts 750 students from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds, has experienced its highest admission rate since its inception.
No One Excluded
The establishment of the Catholic University in Erbil, now recognized for its academic excellence, cultural diversity, and religious coexistence, was made possible through donations from the Italian Bishops Conference.
The university, now a hub for scholars of different faiths, promotes a multicultural and multi-religious academic environment.
Additionally, it serves as a prominent venue for numerous governmental and non-governmental organizations, as well as hosting various medical, scientific, and educational conferences.
