Welcome to the official blog post for the upcoming Jubilee 2025! The Jubilee will officially open tomorrow, December 24, 2024, at 7:00 PM with the opening of the Holy Door of the Papal Basilica of St. Peter.
Following the opening, there will be a celebration of the Holy Mass on the Lord’s Christmas night inside the Basilica. The event can be watched on the big screens installed in St. Peter’s Square, allowing millions of believers and pilgrims from around the world to participate.
The Holy Door will be closed on January 6, 2025. No tickets are required to attend the celebration in St. Peter’s Square; all you need to do is register for the event through the official Jubilee website portal: https://register.iubilaeum2025.va/events/8
The term “Jubilee” likely derives from the Hebrew word “yobel,” which referred to the ram’s horn used to proclaim the beginning of this sacred event. Lasting about a year, the Jubilee is a special occasion that invites believers to participate in a series of spiritual and religious events, including training sessions, prayer moments, walks, seminars, and cultural events.
One of the main celebrations of the Jubilee is the pilgrimage to Rome, where millions of believers gather to participate in the celebrations with the Pontiff. It represents a salvific passage, a transition that, according to Christian tradition, leads to reconciliation with God and others.
Passing through a Holy Door during a Holy Year symbolizes the exit from sin and the entrance into a life of grace, a gesture that, beyond its spiritual value, can lead to obtaining a plenary indulgence, meaning the complete forgiveness of temporal penalties for sins already confessed.
For more information on the upcoming 2025 Jubilee, the opening of the Holy Doors will once again hold ritual and spiritual significance, calling believers to experience renewal and reconciliation.
Traditionally, the Jubilee is celebrated every fifty years, but there are also extraordinary Jubilees, like the one announced by Pope Pius XI in 1933 to commemorate the anniversary of the Redemption, and the one in 2015, proclaimed by Pope Francis, focusing on Mercy.
The next Jubilee, scheduled for 2025, will provide another opportunity to renew faith, engaging in moments of spiritual reflection and interaction with the Church. For more information, visit: https://www.iubilaeum2025.va/it/pellegrinaggio/calendario-giubileo.html
