Cardinal Pizzaballa Visits Gaza Christians
The Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, made a historic visit to the Gaza Strip, where he presided over Mass with the parish community of Fr. Gabriel Romanelli. The Patriarch praised the Christian community for their resilience, stating, “We are proud of you because you have remained what you are: Christians with Jesus.” This visit comes after the community has taken refuge in the parish compound for over 14 months.
Cardinal Pizzaballa’s visit was a symbol of solidarity with the Christians in Gaza, who have faced adversity and challenges. The Mass, celebrated in white vestments as a prelude to Christmas joy, was a moment of spiritual renewal for the community. During the service, the Patriarch also administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to several young people.
In his homily, Cardinal Pizzaballa emphasized the importance of the Christian community as a beacon of light in the world. He encouraged the faithful to embody the light of Christ and to share it with others through their example. The Patriarch commended the community for their steadfast faith and reminded them that Jesus is always with them.
Christmas Celebrations in Bethlehem
Following his visit to Gaza, Cardinal Pizzaballa will travel to Bethlehem to celebrate Christmas Mass at St. Catherine’s Church on Christmas Eve. This visit will be another opportunity for the Patriarch to show his support for the Christian community in the region and to spread the message of hope and peace during the holiday season.
As the world comes together to celebrate Christmas, the presence of Cardinal Pizzaballa in Gaza and Bethlehem serves as a reminder of the enduring faith and resilience of the Christian community in the Holy Land. Through his words and actions, the Patriarch continues to inspire believers to shine the light of Christ in a world that is in need of hope and compassion.
