Beneath one of the most beautiful squares in Rome, Piazza Navona, lies the remains of the Stadium of Domitian, approximately 4.5 meters below the current street level. This archaeological area is one of the most impressive structures of ancient Rome, representing the only known example of a masonry stadium in the city.
As you stroll through the ancient stadium, you’ll encounter inns and shops that once lined its perimeter, as well as grand arches leading into the arena and steep staircases that spectators climbed to reach the stands.
