Welcome to the official announcement of a momentous event in the Catholic Church – the Jubilee of Hope, declared by Pope Francis through the publication of the Bull Spes non confundit (“Hope does not disappoint,” Rom 5:5) on May 9, 2024.
This unique experience of a holy year provides a sacred space and time to rejuvenate our connection with God, our relationships with others, and our societal responsibilities, guided by the teachings of Jesus Christ.
As per the provisions of the Papal Bull, the significant dates for this Jubilee are as follows: The Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica will open on December 24 of this year, followed by other important temple doors in Rome. On December 29, all cathedral churches worldwide will hold a Eucharistic celebration to mark the solemn commencement of the Jubilee Year, culminating with the closing of the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica on January 6, 2026.
The concept of jubilees in the Catholic Church draws inspiration from the sabbatical and jubilee years observed in ancient Israel, emphasizing rest, forgiveness, and restoration. These traditions have evolved over time to symbolize grace, mercy, and abundant life, embodied in the teachings of Jesus.
Pope Francis has chosen the theme of hope for this Jubilee, highlighting the importance of hope as a driving force for humanity. In a world filled with uncertainties, the Jubilee of Hope serves as a beacon of light, reminding us of the need for hope in our lives.
As we navigate the challenges of our time, let us embrace hope as a fundamental aspect of our faith and strive to create a world filled with compassion, justice, and love. The Jubilee of 2025 calls upon us to take concrete actions to bring hope to all individuals, especially the marginalized and vulnerable.
Together, let us build a world where hope is not just a fleeting concept but a tangible reality for all. May this Jubilee inspire us to spread hope and create a better future for generations to come.
Join us in celebrating the Jubilee of Hope and let us be bearers of hope for a world in need of healing, salvation, and liberation.
