Experience the Magic of Assisi at Christmas
The charming pilgrimage town of Assisi in Italy’s picturesque Umbria region is celebrating the 800th anniversary of St. Francis’s beloved text, the Canticle of the Creatures, in a truly magical way this Christmas season.
As part of the Natale ad Assisi program, the town is aglow with festive lights, illuminating the facades of its monuments and streets. This celebration includes a wide range of events, including concerts and other cultural activities.
One of the highlights of the festivities is a captivating video-mapping project that transforms the exteriors of the Basilica di S. Francesco and the Basilica di S. Chiara, along with other historic landmarks in Assisi. These projections bring to life scenes from Giotto’s frescoes and depict the themes of Brother Sun, Sister Moon, and other elements of St. Francis’s 13th-century hymn, all set to enchant viewers every night until January 6, 2025.
Meanwhile, the oldest known copy of the Canticle of the Creatures is on public display in Rome at Palazzo Braschi, offering visitors a unique opportunity to connect with this timeless work of literature.
