Pope Francis Embraces Unity with World Methodist Council
Recently, Pope Francis welcomed a delegation from the World Methodist Council, emphasizing the importance of ecumenical efforts as the world prepares to commemorate the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea.
During their meeting, the Pope expressed gratitude for the progress made in dialogue between Catholics and Methodists over the past six decades. He highlighted the importance of mutual understanding and love in overcoming past estrangements.
“Reconciliation is a task of the heart,” Pope Francis remarked, emphasizing the transformative power of Jesus’ touch on our lives. He encouraged both communities to strive for unity under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, acknowledging that this journey takes time but is essential for serving God’s kingdom.
Looking ahead to 2025, the Pope noted the upcoming anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, a significant event in Christian history that united believers around the Nicene Creed. He emphasized the shared faith in Christ between Methodists and Catholics, calling on them to be beacons of hope in a world that needs to witness God’s presence.
Expressing his gratitude to theologians and pastors involved in dialogue efforts between the World Methodist Council and the Catholic Church, Pope Francis concluded the meeting with a message of unity and prayerful wishes for a joyous Christmas season.
As we reflect on this message of unity and hope, let us continue to work towards building bridges between different Christian communities, guided by the example of Pope Francis and the World Methodist Council.
