The Joyful Return Flight of Pope Francis from Ajaccio
As Pope Francis made his return flight from Ajaccio to Rome, the tight schedule did not allow for his customary press conference with journalists. However, the Pope did express his joy at seeing a large number of parents with children in Ajaccio. The journalists on the plane surprised him with a cake to celebrate his upcoming 88th birthday on December 17.
Travelling with the Pope, Salvatore Cernuzio shared insights from the journey. The short flight did not permit the usual press conference, but Pope Francis took a moment to acknowledge the presence of children in Ajaccio. He emphasized the importance of a land with children, highlighting the future they represent.
A Moment of Celebration
During the flight, members of Aigav, the association of accredited Vatican journalists, presented the Pope with a special cake in honor of his birthday. The three-tier cake, adorned with the colors of the Vatican flag, brought a moment of joy to the short journey. Mexican journalist Valentina Alazraki, representing the journalists, presented the cake with humor and well-wishes.
Despite the brief nature of the flight, the presence of children in Ajaccio and the gesture of the journalists brought warmth and celebration to Pope Francis. As the journey came to an end, the Pope thanked his travel companions and looked forward to future trips with a smile.
