Let’s dive into the festive schedule that awaits us!
December 2024
Starting on December 15, Pope Francis will embark on an Apostolic Journey to Ajaccio, France, engaging in the congress on “Popular religiosity in the Mediterranean.” This marks the beginning of a series of liturgical events for December 2024 and January 2025, officially announced by the Vatican Office for Liturgical Celebrations on November 25.
On Christmas Eve, December 24, at 7:00 p.m., the Pope will lead the Christmas Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica. Following the Mass, he will inaugurate the Holy Door, launching the Ordinary Jubilee of 2025 themed “Pilgrims of Hope,” extending until January 6, 2026. The Pope announced this Jubilee in May 2024 with the bull Spes non confundit.
The Christmas cheer continues on December 25, as Pope Francis delivers his traditional Christmas message and Urbi et Orbi blessing from the central loggia of the Vatican Basilica at 12 noon.
On December 26, the feast of St. Stephen, the Pope will visit the Rebibbia penitentiary in Rome, presiding over a mass at 9:00 a.m. and unveiling the Holy Door as a symbol of hope and solidarity for the inmates.
As we bid farewell to 2024, on December 31 at 5:00 p.m., the Pope will lead the first vespers of the solemnity of Saint Mary Mother of God, offering the prayer of the Te Deum in gratitude for the passing year.
