Welcome to the Annual Bishops’ Plenary in Liberia
The three esteemed Bishops of Liberia—Archbishop Gabriel Blamo Jubwe, Bishop Anthony Fallah Borwah, and Bishop Andrew Jagaye Karnley—recently convened in Monrovia for their annual Bishops’ plenary meeting. This gathering, which marks the end of the year, is a significant event where the Bishops discuss important matters and reflect on the past year.
At the start of the meeting, the Bishops received reports from national department heads and delved into Liberia’s participation at the Second Session of the 16th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, held in Rome. The Apostolic Nuncio to Liberia, Archbishop Walter Erbi, also graced the opening day of the meeting.
Liberia’s Presence at the Synod
Bishop Borwah, the President of CABICOL, provided a comprehensive report on Liberia’s representation at the Synod on Synodality. He emphasized the importance of listening to the Holy Spirit before making decisions, a key theme that emerged from the Synod sessions in Rome.
The Annual One Dollar Campaign
During the meeting, Fr Dennis C. Nimene, the Secretary General of CABICOL, highlighted the Church’s commitment to staying connected with the people and being prophetic in addressing societal issues. He also updated the Bishops on ongoing renovations at the Secretariat and urged them to support the Annual One Dollar Campaign under the Church Support Fund.
Looking Ahead to the 2025 Jubilee Year
As the meeting drew to a close, the Bishops expressed their anticipation for the upcoming 2025 Jubilee Year. This special year will commence with the rite of the Opening of the Holy Door of the Papal Basilica of St. Peter by Pope Francis on 24 December 2024. The Bishops are looking forward to celebrating this significant milestone.
