Join us in celebrating the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Sunday, December 8. Roman citizens will gather at Piazza Mignanelli near Piazza di Spagna to pay homage to the statue of the Immaculate Conception. The day will begin with the firemen climbing to the top of the monument to place a garland of flowers on the arm of the Virgin at 7 a.m. Pope Francis will also participate in the tribute, scheduled to arrive at the Spanish Steps at 4:00 p.m. to pray in front of the Madonna monument.
Tributes from Various Groups
Before the Pope, various groups and personalities will leave floral offerings at the foot of the 12-meter-high column with the bronze statue of Mary. The Vatican Gendarmerie Corps, the parish of Sant’Andrea delle Fratte, the Sovereign Order of Malta, and many others will pay homage with their presence. The day will be filled with a great procession of workers from Roman companies and other organizations.
Songs and Prayers with the Friars
The Friars Minor Conventual of the Basilica of the Holy XII Apostles will be in the square throughout the day to welcome believers with songs and prayers. Join us in celebrating the Immaculate Conception as a great opportunity for evangelization and community gathering.
