Roma invasa da 32 milioni di pellegrini per il Giubileo tra meno di un anno

It is estimated that 32 million pilgrims will visit Rome for the Jubilee of 2025. However, Prefect Lamberto Giannini is confident that even more visitors will be attracted to the city because of its beauty and allure during this special time.

“The prefect faces the major challenge of managing security, especially in these uncertain times. The succession of events that constantly open up new conflicts continues to surprise us,” Giannini commented on the city’s security measures leading up to the Holy Year. “We must work towards ensuring the event’s tranquility, and digitalization plays a crucial role. The commitment to 5G in Rome’s many squares is reassuring as it allows for effective communication in emergencies. Apps will enable pilgrims to RSVP for events, and organizers to manage attendance effectively,” Giannini further explained.

According to the Roman Agency for the preparation of the Jubilee 2000, around 24 million pilgrims visited Rome that year, while the Censis estimated a total of 32 million visitors during the Holy Year. For the extraordinary Jubilee of 2015, arrivals reached 33 million according to Censis. “It’s still early for the Jubilee of 2025, but we believe we are on par with the figures from 2000, which saw a 4.5% increase in attendance compared to the previous year,” said Giuseppe Roscioli, president of Federalberghi Roma, to Fanpage.it.

In 2025, Unioncamere and ISNART, the National Institute for Tourism Research, predict a staggering 35 million tourists and pilgrims will visit Rome, spending over 16 billion euros and experiencing an 81% growth in tourism.

However, some industry associations point out that there are currently only 400,000 available beds, with 66% already booked. Efforts are being made to accommodate the influx of visitors expected during the Jubilee.
